Dub is HOME!

Angie and Dub got here about four on Friday afternoon. I’ve honestly never seen him more excited. He was running around the house laughing and playing with the dogs who were barking like crazy… and it went on and on… and he was trying to tell David and me everything that had happened in the past week all at once… and we were laughing and he kept jumping into our arms and hugging us. It was just nuts. When things settled down a little, he said, “We brought pizza!” and started pulling us by the hands. He dragged us out to the car and we found a whole bunch of Pizza House boxes full of pizza. Angie laughed and told us Dub had talked his grandparents (Donnie’s Dad and Mom) into taking him to Pizza House for lunch on Thursday. When they ordered, Dub told them “Need to take some home for my dads.” So they ordered two large carry-out pizzas. But Dub said, “What about Mom?” So they ordered one for Angie and one for Dub and told him he could have a pizza party when he got home. He thought about it and said, “Need some for Unca Keon and Unca Rick, too.” So, they had lunch at Pizza House and ended up with six large pizzas for Dub to bring home for a pizza party. Angie said Mick and Annie (his grandparents) thought Dub’s concern for his dads and Mom and uncles was about the cutest thing they’d ever seen. Dub wanted to know if we could “ask Unca Keon and Unca Rick over for the pizza party Friday evening,” so we did. We had a great time with Dub bringing the guys up-to-date on everything that had been going on in his busy little life… and we managed to finish off a huge salad, a couple of bottles of wine and four of the six pizzas.
After Rick and Keon went home… and Dub went to bed, Angie said she needed to talk to us. So, we opened another bottle of wine and sat down with her in the living room. She said that she was concerned about what would happen to Dub if something should happen to her. She said that having lost Donnie and her Dad in just a few months made her realize how important it is for Dub to have stability in his life. Mick and Annie (Donnie’s parents) had told her they were also concerned. They all agreed this was the best place for Dub to grow up… with people who love him. They’re afraid that if anything should happen to Angie, Dub might not end up living with David and me. They said that (living in Missouri) they’re afraid the courts might not let us continue to raise him. Angie teared up a little and finally asked if we would be willing to adopt Dub. David and I were just stunned. And finally said, “Of course we want to adopt him,” and we talked and hugged and cried a little… and finally called it a night.
Long story short, on Saturday morning, David called our attorney and told him we needed his help because Angie had to fly out on Sunday and we wanted to get something done about Dub before she left. We then dropped Dub off at Keon and Rick’s and went to meet with the attorney. We had a long discussion, filled out a ton of papers, and he made a video of Angie talking about Dub and why she wanted David and me to adopt him. There’ll be lots more paperwork and some hurdles to jump, but it’s going to happen.
So that’s it. It’s not official – and won’t be for another 6 or 7 months, at least – but we’re adopting Dub. We haven’t told him yet… and don’t plan to until we’re ready to finalize things. I don’t think it’ll probably ever quiet down around here. I don’t guess that’s a bad thing 🙂

Ben, thank you for your detailed report! I’m so glad to know that you will actually adopt Dub!

Happy virtual hugs to the three of you!

Dub is the customer every pizza restaurant dreams of. LOL

Regarding the adoption… didn’t Angie ask you exactly that question in August, when you took a break from blogging in order to take care of the legal issues? I remember I asked you about Dub’s grandparents when you came back and you did say that Angie was working to convince her parents… I just thought the adoption process was already going on… Anyway, you guys, Dub, Bono and Bebe have been a happy family for months and I’m sure you’ll always be!! 🙂

I understand Angie’s concern about Dub’s future, but of course everyone expects her to be part of his life. She must be in a pessimistic mood in view of the recent circumstances… By the way, you didn’t mention her mom… Hope she’s doing well, as far as possible.

Pity we can’t see a pic of you guys and Dub, but these are great! Happy and playful kids, very good-looking dads! 🙂

Love and hugs to the whole family!! 🙂
    Beto.

Damn pollen this time of the year – made my eyes water so bad I had trouble reading the whole post-it may have been the subject but an old curmudgeon like me would never get teary over anything LOL.
All in all, this is the best possible outcome for everyone, and it is a real tribute to the two of you that Angie trusts you to raise her son and that you will always allow her to be part of his life. I think I speak for the whole gang when I tell you how happy we are for the three of you, and how proud we are of you guys.

It’s very important to make it a legal adoption and that Angie is the one who chooses this. Especially since Dub adopted you, which for him, was a long time ago!

    XOXO

Good that you’re formalizing what everyone already knows in their hearts!!

Wonderful news and beautiful post of pics of boys with two dads. In light of all the anti-gay bills that are being promoted these days, this is an important legal matter and it will be a relief to all when it is finalized. You guys are awesome.

The first thought that popped into my mind after reading this entire, heartwarming narrative was that, when you do tell Dub that he has been formally adopted, all the formality mumbo jumbo will go right over his happy little head, and he will tell you he is ALREADY adopted, and you two are ALREADY is two Dads!

Seriously, I’m happy to see this adoption completed legally, so no matter what happens, Dub is YOUR son. The video of Angie stating her wishes is brilliant, in case anything should happen to her on her journey to self discovery.

And, while I do NOT want to get all politicky here, it will be good to have your parental rights lawfully established, just in case some anti-gay, holier-than-thou, right wing turkey prick should ever become POTUS.

Oh! and I LOVE it about Dub and the pizza!! You gotta know, David and Ben, THAT li’l goober never STOPS thinking of you two – and all the family down there in Springfield KNOWS it!!

This post is priceless. My Dudes of the Day? Every single one of these couples who has given a kid the best home he could ever want.

I guess that kinda makes David and Ben Dudes of the Day too!! 😉 😉 😉

I think this is your BEST post EVER! The photos and information here brighten my day more than any 48 naked, H2T, tall, dark, and handsome men could… 🙂 I, too, had to fight back tears to read Ben’s story… 🙂

Getting all of the legalities out of the way is necessary, because the most important thing is to maintain stability and a good home for Dub. The adoption process will not mean much to Dub because as Denny said that he already considers David and you his dads! I can imagine what Dub will say when a judge makes the adoption final…”They have been my dads for a long time, and we are very happy together (with the pups, too… 😉 )!

I couldn’t agree more with Denny’s pick for “Dudes of the Day!” 🙂

Congratulations and best wishes to all three of you as you continue your journey as a happy family! Thanks for sharing this outstanding news, Ben!

Wonderful news!! A very clear pathway to legally adopting Dub!! Congratulations. Wonderful news and post BTW. Thanks. This is the home stretch on this one. I trust all goes well and you can go on with life not worrying one bit about this. As said above, you know this to be true in your hearts, lets just get that paper work done. Worth its weight in gold. Again congratulations from us down here in Mexico.

Might be two replies from me. Best news that could have happened out of this latest issue for you guys. Get that legal shit out of the way as soon as possible so you never have to worry again. And hey, while you are at it, after the paperwork is done, get his Passport (and Yours if you don’t have one.) All in order in the event some crazy person is elected. A double safety.
Really wonderful news. Dub is your best asset. They all can see he is his best when he is with you guys. Congratulations Family!
