Feliz cinco de mayo!

Happy fifth of May, guys! The kids (and big kids, too) are really excited about our annual Cinco de mayo celebration. Last year Alex and Matty were the only actual Latinos is our group, but now, with Dante we have three. It seems everyones Spanish speaking skills have improved even more this year so we’ll all converse strictly in Spanish today.
Unfortunately, the weather isn’t cooperating. It’s raining here with a threat of thunderstorms this afternoon, so our celebration will need to be altered a bit. We’ll still be doing a “moving dinner” but we’ll probably all be carrying umbrellas as we dash from house to house.
As last year, we’ll start at Chad and Raef’s place for chips, salsa and margaritas (virgin margaritas for the kids). Then, move on for tamales, enchiladas, quesadillas and fish tacos. Again this year, we’ll end up at Jim and Carol’s house for fried ice cream.
Silas will be serenading us with his guitar and we’ll all be singing along. It’s a special day for us – quickly becoming (almost) equal to Christmas and July 4th. We hope it’s a special day for all of you as well!
Mucho cariño a todos y feliz cinco de mayo!

Dude. Check out these luscious Latin bois!

When we were together at Big Cedar Lodge for our Easter celebration, somehow the subject of “Latinos” came up. The question was: “Who in our group are “latinos” and exactly what is a “Latino”? We know that Mateo (Matty) and Alexandro (Alex) are Latinos and we’re pretty sure Dante is as well. But we couldn’t agree on what a “Latino” is. When we got home, I did a bit of on-line research and found an article “Ask a Scholar: What is the True Definition of Latino?” Here’s part of it:
“The word latino is a Spanish word that has entered the English language. In Spanish, it means someone belonging to the people of ancient Latium, in Italy, whose language was Latin; so the Romans of course were latinos. Another and related meaning of latino in Spanish refers to someone who belongs to the cultures of the Romance Languages, that is, those peoples whose language, and to a varying extent, whose culture, too, derive from the language and civilization of Rome, which was latin. Among these Romance languages are Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Rumanian. Therefore, all Italians, Frenchmen, Spaniards, Rumanians, and Portuguese, as well as all those Latin Americans whose language is Spanish or Portuguese (an English-speaking person from Jamaica would not qualify) are latinos. This last meaning can be found in the English language as well, in the English word “Latin,” when used in some contexts; thus famous “Latin” performers have been Rodolfo Valentino and Carmen Miranda. In this context, the English word “Latin” has carried a certain aura of joix de vivre, or of sexuality, sometimes to the point of caricature and satire.”

In any case, I’m of the opinion that Latinos are some of the hottest, most sexual men in the world. I’m including some photos that pretty much prove the point 🙂 David

Dude. Check out these butt naked mustachioed boys!

Silas and Dante came over for dinner yesterday evening. It was just the five of us and as much as we enjoy getting together with the whole Table rock gang, a small group lets everyone talk and get better acquainted. David grilled lobster tails and I made a penne salad with green beans, tomatoes and fresh dill (from Dub’s indoor herb garden). It was yummy!
Dante is growing a beard now – and Silas a mustache. They said they felt like their faces were naked when we were all together. It’s kind of true. Keon, Cal, Raef, Nathan and I all have full beards… and the rest of the gang all have mustaches. David says we look like a bunch of retro porn stars. Fine with me 🙂
